Con on the Cob Report

Oof. My day off is pretty much a wash. I’ve been so exhausted today still from all of the travel yesterday that I’ve been catching up on my TV rather than doing anything productive.

One thing I wanted to do for sure today was post a post-Con on the Cob report. I don’t think I’m going to do the traditional review of events. Instead I’ll go with a little more personal approach.

My mindset for this convention was that I was going because I wanted to hang out with a bunch of really cool fans and musicians. I ended up learning something about performing from every act I saw.

What I Learned:

Worm Quartet - Perform every show like it may be your last
Soggy Potato Chips – Remember what it was like at the beginning and never forget the limitless upside
Positive Attitude – Perform your first show like you’ve been doing it forever and put everyone else to shame set the bar higher in the process
Derwood Bowen – Have the courage to do your own thing
The Gothsicles – No room is too small to destroy
Seamonkey – Have conviction;
not the legal kind but the believe-in-what-you’re-doing-so-much-you-leave-a-mess-behind kind
Rob Balder - Timing
Sudden Death – Sometimes a dancing tree and cloud are just what the show needs
the great Luke Ski – Collaborate with others so you can perform with them live
Carrie Dahlby – Write about what you know because it’s real and people will respond to it
Power Salad – Sometimes the eccentric is just what people want to hear
Tom Smith – Creativity will flourish with inspiration and free time
Eric Coleman – Prepare some things to say on-stage, but don’t be afraid to live in the moment
Possible Oscar – Akron, OH is not too far to travel to hang out with all of you wonderful people

Con on the Cob met and exceeded my expectations for fun. Let’s do it all again at MarsCon.
